HAWKINS SCHOLARSHIP: Applications for 2008 Hawkins Memorial Scholarships are available in the Narthex or in the church office. This scholarship is to help members of Hollywood United Methodist Church who are continuing their studies at an accredited institution of higher learning. The application deadline is September 2nd. STRIKE OUT AIDS REHEARSAL will take place Wednesday, September 3rd in Lincoln Park at 7pm. This rehearsal is mandatory for all who are participating in the human red ribbon on September 5th at Dodger Stadium. For more information please call 323-224-1592 ext. 33.
”ECLIPSING THE EMPIRE'' CLASS: This week's topic is "Vocation". Luke refuses to classify Paul as a true apostle of Christ, although Paul clearly considers that his calling and station. Is Luke too stingy, or is Paul simply arrogant? And what difference does it make to us today? Join us to discover Paul's theory of The Kingdom of God, its challenge to Roman (and modern) imperialism, and how to understand Paul and his radical relevance for today. ''JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE'' CLASS: This class, led by Barbara Sloan and Brenda Mattox, continues this Sunday at 9:45 am in the Parlor. Visitors are welcome. Bibles and study materials are provided. 
SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICE: During the 11:00 am worship service, Rev. Dave will preach a sermon from our Crossflix Series entitled Groundhog Day.
PARKING ON SUNDAY: The FRANKLIN PLACE LOT IS NOW AVAILABLE ON SUNDAY MORNINGS. We would still like to encourage members to park at the Hollywood & Highland parking structure, to allow more space in our lot for visitors. Parking at the Hollywood & Highland complex costs $2.00 with validation. Receive your validation after service at the Welcome Table. Thanks for helping us enable as many people as possible to worship with us on Sundays. GET A MAP OF THE PARKING LOTS.
HOLLYWOOD BOWL PARKING: Hollywood Bowl Parking season is nearing its end, but we still need help – have you volunteered yet? All proceeds from the cars that we park in our lot go straight to our general budget. If you'd like to help park cars throughout the summer, please email Laura Hovermale. It's easy and fun.
GROWTH GROUPS are coming to HUMC this fall! Growth Groups gather at neighborhood homes for fellowship, study and prayer all geared towards encouraging growth in your faith. Groups are now forming in Silver Lake / Hollywood / Miracle Mile / Valley Village & 'a neighborhood near you'. Sign ups will begin Sunday, September 7th. Starting this fall we will be reading and studying The Heart of Christianity by Marcus Borg. Order a copy from the HUMC / AMAZON bookstore. A book you’ll find hard to put down, “The Thirteenth Tale” is a brilliant example of good old fashioned storytelling. AIDSWalk 2008: Sunday, October 19, 2008 members from HUMC will be participating in the 23rd annual AIDSwalk in Los Angeles. To become a member of the Heart of Hollywood team you can register online or at the welcome desk starting this Sunday. Come join the Heart of Hollywood in the walk to save lives! FIRST PLACE FOR JOHNNY NICOLORO! Johnny's photo "Uncle Dick" won first place in the professional division "Active Illusion" segment of the "Photography at High Speed" competition hosted by the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts. His photo will be on display at the LA County Fair starting September 5th and running through the 28th. View the winning photo here!
ART SHOW: On Sunday, September 14th, Linda Sprinkel Mikkelson will show her California landscape paintings at the Hollywoodland Art Fair (up Beachwood Drive from Franklin) from 11 am to 5 pm.
