Find out what's happening this week at HUMC!

CROSSFLIX SERMON SERIES: starting this Sunday with “The Soloist”. Plan on spending your Sunday mornings with us as we take a spiritual journey together through the human (and robot) experience in the following films; ”Sunshine Cleaning” (July 12th), ”The Visitor” (July 19th), ”Milk” (July 26th), ”Gran Torino” (August 2nd), ”Rachel Getting Married” (August 9th), ”To Kill A Mockingbird” (August 16th), ”The Matrix” (August 23rd), ”Wall-E” (August 30th) and ”Saved!” (September 6th). Save the dates and bring a friend!

VACATION: Rev. Kathy will be on vacation June 21-July 4th, and Rev. Dave and Becky will be on vacation June 25-July 5.

OFFICE CLOSED: Monday, July 6th in observance of the 4th of July Holiday.

BOOKIES BOOK CLUB:Bookies will be taking the month of July off. Please join us for our next meeting, August 28th at 7:30 pm. We will be discussing “Curse of the Spellmans” by Lisa Lutz. ‘Publishers Weekly’ says: “The quirky Spellman family is fun, and Graynor's sardonic and sly delivery doesn't attempt to upstage the writing.”

CSW PARADE: You can watch the entire parade streamed from the La Pride website (we appear at the 2:40:50 mark, where we are talked about as the recipients of the Berman-Schaffer award!) and relive the wonderful experience of Pride here in LA!

HUMC 100: As part of our Centennial Celebration, we are collecting stories of what brought you to Hollywood United Methodist Church. Click on HUMC 100 on the homepage and tell us your story!

This Sunday

The many wonders of Worship at HUMC!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICE: At 11 am Jay Sowell will give a sermon entitled, The Power of Love, based on the first of our Crossflix films "The Soloist".

SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR THE SUMMER: Because of summer vacations, and the need to give a break to our wonderful volunteer Sunday School staff, there will be no Tiny Tots or PowerXpress Sunday School during the months of July and August. There will, however, be Nursery Care available for children through 4 years old. The first Sundays of July, August, and September will offer "Children's Church" for K-3rd grade in the Chapel, but for all other Sundays, children kindergarten and older will be invited to stay in the service. Coloring books and crayons will be made available in the Narthex. The Sundays of September will be designated for our kids to complete their contribution to the HUMC Centennial Celebration on September 27th. Our regular Sunday School schedule will resume in October.

Here are some things you might want to know!

SUMMER OFFICE HOURS: Starting on Tuesday, July 7 (the office will be closed on Monday, July 6 in observance of Fourth of July), the HUMC summer office hours for July and August will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday - Friday. Although office personnel will continue to work their regularly scheduled hours, the 3 p.m. closing will allow the staff to have uninterrupted office hours later in the afternoon to work on projects and deadlines, have quiet, focused work time, as well as enable them to have a designated time for meetings that won't coincide with the "busy" hours of the day generally in the mornings and early afternoons.

NO FELLOWSHIP DINNER: Our Thursday Evening Fellowship dinners are on hiatus for the summer, along with UMYF and the Angel & Cherub Choir rehearsals. If you are coming for Adult Choir rehearsal, don’t forget to grab a bite to eat before you get here.

HUMC ON FACEBOOK: Stay up to date with our events, post photos, write us a comment and connect with your fellow HUMC family members all in one place. All you need is to sign up for a facebook account and follow the link to join the HUMC group! Join us now!

FUNDS NEEDED FOR THE HOMELESS MINISTRY: Every Tuesday, the Homeless Ministry provides over 120 lunches and fresh clothing to needy people in our area. The program needs more funding in order to continue. Please consider if you are able to donate to this important ministry.
